Imagine a massive swarm of locusts invading your city, devouring all the harvests of the field, the wheat, the barley and grain, leaving nothing left, thus devastating the entire population.
That was what happened to God’s people in the book of Joel.
It foreshadows the day of the Lord, when God will lead His mighty army and bring upon His judgment.
It’s no coincidence that the land suffers massive devastation. Israel’s disobedience towards God has led to God withdrawing His blessing and protection. How should God's people respond? How will they face the day of the Lord?
