In marriage, you don't live for yourself, nor for your spouse.
Marriage has a PURPOSE — it points to Christ and His church. In light of this, the church itself needs to be concerned with its holiness, as Christ is.
Just as the church is to be presented holy and blameless like Christ, both husband and wife should seek to conform to Christ in all aspects of His love for the church.
