Goodbyes and Welcome Back! (Part 2)

Posted on 28 Jan 2015 by CERC

In the second part of our “Goodbyes and Welcome back!” series, we meet Gan Siew Mun who has moved to Singapore with her husband.

Siew Mun served in CERC for 3 years prior to her marriage. Her introduction to CERC came when her then boss, Aunty June, suggested that she pay a visit to her church. Siew Mun was working and pursing her law degree at that time. During her time with CERC, Siew Mun was described by a close friend as one who did not hesitate to share the gospel with strangers in the most unlikely places.

Here are some excerpts from the email interview with Siew Mun.

How have things been for you in Singapore since you moved?

I am coping well in Singapore. After getting over the initial culture shock, I’ve started to re-create Malaysian flavours in my kitchen. I am currently attending The Crossing Church, which is a small church situated in Little India, but it will move to a larger venue this year.

Did CERC help you mature in Christ? How?

Yes, CERC church leaders and members are greatly supportive in each other’s spiritual growth. In fact, it was a turning point for me to be reborn in faith. Through Growth Groups and Sunday gatherings, I was able to understand the Gospel and I learnt to read God’s Word better.

What is the one thing from CERC that will stick with you for a long time to come?

The membership classes. They taught me what it really means to be a Christian. As part of the congregation, I was encouraged to play an active role in service. I have many weaknesses and the church built me up in Gospel truth.

Did you find it a challenge to leave CERC and Malaysia?

Not so much because CERC had given me a good foundation. I was sure of my identity as a Christian ? one loved by God. That security will follow me wherever I go. I also had the confidence that there was a Gospel-centred congregation in Singapore!

How can we pray for you and David?

Please pray for David’s employment. He is trying to look for jobs outside Singapore. Please pray that I will be a submissive and supportive wife.

Share with us some words of encouragement for the members of CERC.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, remember that we are sinners saved by grace. In response, do continue in good works for Him.
